Today marks the first day of construction on the Monroe and Adams intersections at Wacker. Please see the pedestrian access map below for help navigating the new construction area. All businesses near the construction zone remain open. Please continue to support them throughout the project.
Wacker Construction Moving to Monroe and Adams
The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) will start the next stage of the Wacker Drive rebuilding on Jan. 9 by beginning the construction of the Monroe Street and Adams Street intersections after completing the Madison Street intersection on-time and on-budget. The $300 million reconstruction of Wacker Drive, which will completely rebuild and modernize the upper and lower levels of the nearly 60-year-old roadway, is scheduled for completion in late-2012. Wacker Drive Concrete Pour to Impact Traffic Friday
More than 100 concrete trucks will assemble Friday, Aug. 26 on and nearby north-south Wacker Drive to pour a deck between Washington Street and Madison Street as part of the Revive Wacker Drive, Part 2 reconstruction project. The deck pour will impact pedestrian and vehicular traffic throughout the day and into Saturday morning. Site preparation to allow access for the concrete trucks south of Washington Street will begin at 9:30 a.m. As a result, the south crosswalk at Wacker Drive and Washington Street will be closed to pedestrians. Traffic Tip: Use Randolph
The Madison intersection reconstruction has resulted in congestion and delays on Lake and Adams. Please help to alleviate congestion by also using Randolph as a detour. Recent travel times on Adams from Michigan to the Kennedy averaged at about 20 minutes, meanwhile time spent on Randolph from Michigan to the Kennedy averaged at about five minutes.
Pedestrian Access Change
Beginning Saturday, June 11, pedestrian routes will be altered to ensure easier and more efficient travel near the construction zone. Please see the map below for the current pedestrian access plan as of June 11.
